3 Ways To Increase Alexa Traffic Ranking
The test result is out! I did an experiment to see the effect of inconsistent blogging has on my Alexa ranking. True enough, my ranking suffered a dip. Seems that inconsistent blogging do hurt your traffic significantly if you do not have a consistent stream of traffic. Remember that I mentioned previously that blogexplosion can increase your traffic significantly though it may not be targeted. I feel that massive blog exposure is the key if you are still a newbie. You may not be able to sustain a targeted stream of traffic if you still do not have enough content on your blog.
Take a look at my Alexa graph.

My curve has been quite constant with a reach of about 10. And I had been thinking of new ways to bring my traffic to the next level. There are many documented methods and you can easily search for them using Google. An integrated approach to combine all the traffic generation methods may be good. But it is enough to master one traffic generation method, instead of being a master of none.
So, how to increase your alexa traffic ranking? Constant experimentation is the way to go. Theory is nice but is useless unless you can get it to work.
And so, I would like to share 3 tested ways with you to improve your alexa ranking.
1) Increase your reach
Social networking is a very good way to generate more traffic. Join mybloglog and blogexplosion and you will soon see an improvement in your ranking.
2) Sustain your traffic
Posting daily is the fastest way for a blog to increase its content. With good content posted everyday, you will soon have a stream of loyal readers coming back regularly to read your blog.
3) Increase the stickiness of your blog
By constantly tweaking your site to make it easy for others to read your old posts and to allow others to participate in some discussion on the ideas you share, you can boost your page views significantly. This will in turn boost your ranking since page views is one of the criteria in determining your ranking.
Do these for 3 months and I guarantee that your Alexa ranking will improve significantly.

Previously, I used blogexplosion too but it brings insignficant targetted traffic. So, I switched to mybloglog and there’s a big boom..Frankly speaking, it’s not much for some of bloggers, but having consistent 60-70 unique visitors everyday is a great achievement for me. Just keep posting good content, I believe the number readers will increase gradually

Don’t forget the obvious one, install the alexa toolbar (or firefox search status plugin) and surf your site often.

Yeah I have read in loads of places that if you download the Alexa toolbar and use it, it increases your ranking. I am considering doing this because on lots of sites (e.g. text link ads) it makes your blog more valuable so you can earn more…Perhaps you could do an experiement of some sort?

I believe it is not just the alexa toolbar, other plugin like the search status one for firefox also can help in the boost….
besides installing it yourself, you can also offer a download section for your visitor to make sure they have it too…

I highly suggest you listen to Wayne Porter’s and Sam Harrelson’s beta podcast…it is almost over TWO hours long, it winds at times, but some really good stuff if you listen, lot of interesting ideas. I downloaded it and put it on my ipod and listened to it on train.
What blew my mind is how they spilled the beans on exactly how to manipulate Alexa rankings. No vague theory, but exactly how to do it. Other’s would charge for this I bet. I have been testing and it is starting to work. They are right. All the numbers are crap.

I think the issue is that you haven’t built a critical mass of readers yet.
It’s better to focus on creating unique, quality content, and once you have it up, then go look at traffic boosters like technorati, MBL, alexa, squidoo and the like.
Your AWSTATS package would give you a clearer picture than Alexa alone.
