The last training was really a nightmare if no internet access wasn’t enough. The mosquitoes here in Singapore forest is really deadly and has been known for spreading the deadly Dengue fever. Hopefully I will return in one piece after my training.

Before I leave again, I would like to bring to your attention that blogging is really getting onto the trend as more people are starting out as bloggers in whatever niches they choose to be in. One of the easiest and fastest way to start a blog is to start using blogger.com. Another is Wordpress platform where you have an arsenal of ready made plugins for you to optimize your site for maximum SEO effects. These plugins are not available with blogger and this differentiate Wordpress from Blogger. If you are lazy and just want a ready made Wordpress blog with all the plugins, you can get Alex Sysoef’s package which contains an optimized blog ready to make money. I will not say anymore unless I am paid to do a review on his product. Here is a sample of the optimized blog.

Today, I am back with more tips. Hope that we can share with each other on how to make money with blogging. First, I would like to paint a big picture on how we can earn money online.

Basically, this is simple. You need a system. This system shall consists of two main components.

• Content + Targeted Traffic = Money

Content is by far the most important thing you should focus on creating. Remember that people come online to look for information. If you don’t provide useful information, these people may not come back again.

Content can be be classified into 2 types

• Broad based
• Narrow targeted

Both have their pros and cons. A broad based focus can attracted more traffic meaning more people will at least know something that you are talking about. The cons is that these traffic are less targeted and may not convert well if you are promoting affiliate products.

A narrow targeted type of content can attract more focused type of traffic but it may be harder to keep people coming back for more if your post are not stickiness enough.

Choose the one which you are comfortable in. And REMEMBER to just focus on one method.

Next, get the traffic you want to your blog. There are many ways to get free traffic.

• Article Marketing
• Forum Marketing
• Expired Traffic
• Traffic Exchanges
• Search Engine Traffic
• Social Traffic
• Blog
• Ezine Advertising
• …
• And many more…

Focus on one. And a bit from the rest. Every bit of traffic adds up. Attract and monetize them.

If you really want to make money by blogging, you should really learn from Problogger and John Chow.

Money completes the equation to blogging.

Do you think this is true? I believe that money made from blogging are just an indication of your ability to monetize the content.

Blogs are here to stay for the long term as blogs are real good marketing tools. In fact, your content can be anything interesting.

However, there are also blogs that don’t monetize their content at all. Some did it but it made their blogs appear spammy with so many ads drowning the content.

Traffic is another important factor to making money with blogging. If you have been to Problogger and John Chow’s blog, you would have realise that there are no kiddy stuffs like site meters that tells the number of visitors they have since a certain date ago.

Look at their technorati graph, do you think you can sustain this type of traffic?

Do you have to provide content that are out of this world? I guess not. You just have to write post which will keep readers coming back for more.

The changes was meant to faciliate easy reading of previous post and to allow easy browsing. The changes are not completed yet as there are some problems that are not solved. The ironic part is that new problems always appear when the old ones are solved. Right now,

1. The search bar is not currently working real time.
2. The archive link at the top of the main page is not working yet.
3. Due to changes in the permalinks, redirects are used to inform the search engines to reindexed the pages.

The first 2 problems can be easily solved by changing the permalinks to /%category%/%postname% to /%postname%. However this leads to another problem. All my previously indexed page will now point to an “PAGE NOT FOUND” page.

This can be solved easily by using the permalink redirect plugin. However this plugin causes the first 2 problems to reappear. It is sort of an chicken and egg problem.

In weighing the importance of search engines traffic with the errors now plaguing the blog, I chose to keep the permalink redirect plugin. So to solve all problems, waiting is the only best solution. In time, the search engines will reindex all my posts due to the 403 redirects I used. After all the posts are reindexed, the redirect plugin will be removed to solve the first 2 problems.

Sorry for being so technical. I am just trying to share some of my technical knowledge with you. You may find it useful if you decide to change your permalinks one day. Hope these tips come in handy one day. And not to forget, these permalink changes also help in improving the SEO of the blog. In the meantime, please bear with the “PAGE NOT FOUND” error and wait for the search engines to finish their job. :)

 1. Have your readers in mind – WIIFM

What is it for me? That should be the No. 1 tip which every blogger should remember. Most of the readers are trying to get some information out of your post/blog. Hence, if you are able to give as much information as they need, they will be more interested to come back to your blog for more. However, remember that your viewers are also very busy people. They want information fast. Hence, keep it (your post) short and simple, or K.I.S.S in short. If you can make any explanation through diagrams, that’s even better. This will enable them to have a deeper impression on what they have read on your blog.

2. Participate in forums, related blogs or social communities

Personally, I find that participating in social communities are quite useful in attracting traffic to your blog. As forums and communities are places whereby many people come together, it is a good opportunity to introduce yourself and your blog. Also, I am fond of going to communities as there is a wide spread of viewers from different countries which we can attract to our blog. For blogs, I will like to read other people’s blogs which are related in topics. This will enable us not to be lack behind from the latest news/ information. You wouldnt want to blog on something which are old information for your readers, right? Hence, be more pro-active to communicate which other bloggers.

3. Have a goal in mind

Only when you have a goal in mind, then you can think and tweak your mind to move towards your goal. Only when you have a goal, then you will not become like a housefly (flying in circles, and not to your destination). Only when you have a goal, then you can see if you have achieved it and move on to higher targets. Of cos, you have to set reasonable targets.

One thing which I have find out is that we know there are a lot of different ways to attract traffic, do this, or do that. However, I think it is best to stick with a few methods and do it well. Personally, I used to read quite a bit of ebooks from different gurus, who explained many many different methods to achieve one aim. I got excited whenever I read a new method. However, I didnt achieve much in the end. I find that it is best to choose a few methods which you are confident of doing, and do it well.

With these, I hope you will start getting traffic which you should get in the first place. Also, remember to practise the same steps until you are good at them.

Would you sell your blog for a few thousand dollars? It may seems like a lot to many of us, but I wouldn’t sell it since I spent lots of time and effort to build my blog. Your blog also reflects your identity and voice on the internet. Selling it is almost equivalent to selling yourself.

You may not agree with me on this. Because you might argue that you can easily build another one to replace the one you sell. Some of us may even have the idea of building more blogs to sell. Guess that will be another lucrative business for you and me.

Well, go here now to check the value of your blog before you decide is it worth it to sell your blog if there are buyers.

Social networking is now the hottest prevalent trend in the online world. So what does this mean for internet marketers? If you are considering to build up your brand name, or to create awareness to your blog, you must create your own identity on these social networks now. It is nice to see many of the famous internet marketers like Marlon and Rosalind are already on mySpace. Maybe one day, I may have the chance to meet them in person. Ewen always tell me that internet marketing is a lonely business and it would be nice to make some friends since you will be spending most of your time online. Who knows they may be your friends who can help you in the future when you are preparing to launch your product. Remember that in social networks, you are there to socialise and not to sell. This is the untold rule of social network. If you break this fundamental rule, you will be socialising into oblivion. In order to fit into your communities, your only intent must not be in making profits out of your new friends. Imagine someone trying to sell you something on the first meeting. You will be scaring everybody away.

Be genuine to everybody, try to communicate with everybody and soon you will be on your way to building up your own brand name.

Many of us feel that we have a lot of limitations of blogging due to where we are situated. Maybe we are on our way to catch a movie, or just taking our dogs for a walk, then suddenly we have an idea. So conventionally, you will have to run home, or go to the nearest computer, to boot up in order to update it. Although moblogging is still in its infancy, the first moblog technology is available more than a decade ago. However, it is only the past two or three years that the mobile web devices have become user-friendly enough to appeal to most consumers. As camera phones and other mobile technology become more popular, more and more bloggers will be getting away from their desks and will be on the streets instead.

In fact, moblogging is becoming much more widespread that it was even a few months ago, and mobloggers are quickly attracting a lot of attention with the blogging community. It is not yet clear whether moblogs will become the dominant kinds of blogs in the years to come, but the current trend seems to imply that moblogs are here to stay.

As, mobile devices make it possible to blog from the sites where current events are unfolding. It becomes one of the reasons why moblogging is so much exciting to revolutionise the blogosphere. For instance, a moblogger with a camera phone can post blog entries from, say, the foot of the podium at a presidential speech, or from the stands during the final moments of the world series. This enables bloggers to experience the same real time thrills that live television coverage provides, but in a more democratic medium.

Indeed, the combination of mobility and individual control that moblogging provides certainly places mobloggers on the cutting edge of today’s communications technology, and it is hard to imagine that the number and prestige of moblogs will not continue to grow in the coming years.

Every successful blog starts with a great idea.

You will need at least one great idea so that your blog will last and become successful. The competition for attention is fierce, and you will have to offer something which no other blogs is offering now. Perhaps, you really have to do the same thing that an already popular site. Then, I will advise you to at least try to make it more impressive or valuable than the existing one.

To find this great idea, you might want to look at sites which have already successfully capture a blogging audience. Then, determine if you can modify some of their strategies to help you with coming up with YOUR own great idea. Indeed, you will still need to put in your unique factor to make yours stand apart from your competition. Do consider how you can give your site an attractive feeling by putting in your own voice and strong personality.

Once you have a great idea for your site, have pinpointed a special niche that you are well equipped to fill, and have infused the site with personality, the next step is figuring out how to get the word out to bloggers. In the long run, a great idea just isn’t enough to propel your blogging web site to success. You will need to draft a smart and realistic marketing plan in order to draw readers to your site. Once you hook a reader, your great content will keep them coming back, but it is vital to get that first glance or your site won’t have a chance to shine.
